Owing to the pandemic many music groups have had to find creative ways to bring singers and instrumentalists together. This video (c. 5:00 in length) is a "virtual choir" performance involving the symphonic chorus I perform with locally and a counterpart group from Johannesburg. We performed together in 2017 in Minneapolis and in South Africa in 2018.
The song on this video, Ukuthula, is an a cappella sacred anthem sung in the native language. It involves a "call and response" between a soloist and the choir and includes hand gestures that are common practice in South African choral performances.
