Security, Privacy & Cookies

Privacy & Security

The security and privacy of our W-L 1971 classmate data has been important in the creation of this website.

Sharing of data

No classmate information will be shared with outside parties except for the Washington-Lee Alumni Association through our class 1971 representative Cary Blake (Hetzer). This shared information is limited to name, address, email, and phone.

Gathering of personally-identifying information

The information being collected about classmates will only be shared among the these same individuals, all of whom[e] have registered on the system and been assigned a user ID and password.

Ads

No advertisements appear on this website. We will remove any ads that are posted in profiles.

“Contact us” links

Have a question? Need to get in touch with us? There’s a link on the “Contact Us” page that will trigger your email application to open and generate an email to webmaster Bob Oganovic. No content entered in the email application is stored on the website or its database.

Comments

Comments and other content can only be posted by classmates who, as noted above, have registered on the system and been assigned a user ID and password. Postings will be monitored by the webmaster. Classmates are encouraged to use good judgment in terms of keeping their comments tasteful and apolitical.

Children’s information

Classmates may make references to minor children and grandchildren. However, the website will not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13. If you think a child you know entered data on our website, we strongly encourage you to contact us immediately. We will do our best to promptly remove such information.

Search engine visibility

The WordPress setting “Discourage search engines from indexing this site” has been set to “On,” although we recognize it is up to the search engines themselves to honor this request.

SSL certification

The website has an SSL certificate. For further background on what this means in terms of the safeguard of information see the article “What is an SSL Certificate?.”

Cookies

The W-L ’71 website uses cookies — small files that are placed on your machine. They help the site provide a better user experience by, for example, enabling website pages to load faster.

However, you may prefer to disable cookies on this site (or others). The most effective way to do this is to adjust settings in your browser. We suggest consulting the Help section of your browser as well as well as reviewing the About Cookies website which offers guidance for all modern browsers.
